Chilli Crab - Sweet & Spicy Pinoy Style

This is a recipe I tried to replicate from our holiday back home in the Philippines. As an island nation, we eat a lot of seafood. This is one is great to eat with your hands and lick the sauce around your fingers!

  • 2 tbsp cooking oil
  • 1 kilo crabs, cut in half or crab claws
  • 5 tbsp RoniB’s Kitchen Garlic Chilli Oil (2 tbsp if using the Extra Hot version)
  • 3 tbsp ginger, minced
  • 2 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 1/2 cup tomato ketchup
  • 1/4 cup sweet chili sauce
  • 2 tbsp fish sauce add more as preferred
  • 1/2 tsp sesame oil
  • 1/4 cup water add more if needed
  • 3 tbsp spring onions, thinly sliced crosswise


  1. Heat a pan and when the pan is hot pour the cooking oil

  2. Saute the garlic, ginger, and RoniB's Kitchen Garlic Chilli Oil

  3. Add the crab and cook for 3 to 4 minutes

  4. Add the hoisin sauce, tomato ketchup, sweet chili sauce, fish sauce,and sesame oil then mix

  5. Pour-in the water, cover and bring to a boil then simmer for 10 minutes or until the sauce is thick

  6. Garnish with a sprinkle of green onions

  7. Serve hot and Enjoy!
